The International Organization of Professional Surgical Assistants and the American Board of Surgical Assistants have formed a Non-Equity Strategic Alliance, for the advancement, recognition and credentialing of all professional surgical assistants, not only in the United States of America but throughout all nations.

*** New Practical Examination ***
Beginning December, 2010; ALL candidates for new ABSA certification must successfully pass the Practical Portion of the ABSA Certification Examination.
The practical section of the examination evaluates the candidate's ability to competently and smoothly perform tying and suturing.
The candidate will be evaluated, by an ABSA designated examiner, at the testing center.
